Firms are recruiting in a variety of sectors from manufacturing to business services and beyond. So, just who are the businesses on the look out for staff and what positions are available?

The firm, which employs around 5,000 people in Wales, is offering roles with a variety of responsibilities and salary grades with all new starters joining the Group’s employee share scheme, receiving up to £3,000 worth of free shares in the company each year.

Admiral’s Head of People Services, Ceri Assiratti, said: “We’re always looking for talented people to join the group and in the past we’ve been very successful in finding these people in South Wales.

“We’re very confident in finding more good quality people to meet our current recruitment needs.”

Alert Logic

US company Alert Logic, which is headquartered in Houston, is a leading provider of security as a service for the cloud. Its European HQ and Security Operations Centre (SOC) is based in the heart of Cardiff’s Enterprise Zone in the Welsh Government’s Capital Quarter offices, while its UK datacentre is in Newport.

The company expects to create 135 jobs in South Wales over the next three years with the potential for further growth in the future.

The expansion – which is essential to increase capacity to meet the growing demand for its organic spring water – is supported by £250,000 business finance from the Welsh Government .

Over the next three years it will create 25 new jobs bringing the total employed on site to more than 50.

PS Group

Minimum Wage to Rise

Stirling_1645887cFrom Thursday 1st October, the national minimum wage will increase by 20p an hour to £6.70 as recommended by the Low Pay Commission (LPC) in March 2015 this year.

The government has rejected the LPC’s recommendation for the apprentice rate. The new apprenticeship rate will be set at £3.30 and represents a rise of 57 pence, the largest ever increase in the National Minimum Wage for apprentices. By implementing a rate higher than the LPC’s recommendation, the government intends that apprenticeships will deliver a wage that is comparable to other choices for work.

Business Secretary Vince Cable is also planning to launch the National Minimum Wage Accelerator – an online tool which will make it easier to compare rates of pay across regions, sectors and occupations. It will take data from the annual survey of hours and earnings and display information about pay so that people are able to compare wages with others in their sector and region

From 1 October 2015:

  • the adult rate will increase by 20 pence to £6.70 per hour
  • the rate for 18 to 20 year olds will increase by 17 pence to £5.30 per hour
  • the rate for 16 to 17 year olds will increase by 8 pence to £3.87 per hour
  • the apprentice rate will increase by 57 pence to £3.30 per hour
  • the accommodation offset increases from the current £5.08 to £5.35

This is the biggest increase since 2007.

It’s World Wide Web week! 13th-19th April 2015

online support

For a lot of us it has become hard to imagine what we did before the internet as it has become such a vital part of our lives.

The internet is full of so much information that we take it for granted how easily we can find things out as long as we have internet access.

World Wide Web Week is all about reflecting on the internet and the issues that effect its usage.

82% of the UK’s population now have access to the internet; which shows how important it has become! This high percentage is also possibly down to great programmes such as Communities 2.0 in Wales that have helped people get connected and gain digital literacy skills.

But do we ever stop to think about the ethical and moral dilemmas that arise on the internet? It is this type of discussion that will be brought to the forefront of peoples minds during World Wide Web Week.

If you are interested in how to get involved or would like more information visit: www.worldwidewebweek.co.uk

Did you know that we offer ReAct funding?

ReAct helps people affected by redundancy gain new skills and encourages employers to employ redundant workers. We offer ReAct funding and are more than happy to help you work out if you can receive funding to help a redundant worker return to the workplace.

Print

If you are an employer looking to recruit, there are 2 packages available for employing an individual who has been made redundant:

1) Employer Recruit Support

Employer Recruitment Support funds employers who want to recruit individuals that have been made redundant in the past 3 months. The award offers up to £3,000 paid in four instalments as a contribution towards wage costs.

2) Employer Training Support

This is a separate discretionary fund of up to £1,000 that an employer can be used towards the cost of the new recruit’s job-related training.

Employers can choose whether to apply for Recruitment Support alone or Recruitment and Training Support. Employer Training Support can only be used in conjunction with Employer Recruitment Support.

Who qualifies?

Employer Recruitment and Training Support is available to your business if the individual you wish to recruit is either under formal notice of redundancy or has become unemployed in the last 3 months.

The individual must have been a resident in Wales when they were first eligible for ReAct.

Individuals working 25 hours per week or more will attract a full wage subsidy whilst those employed between 16 – 24 hours per week will receive a wage subsidy equal to 50% of the full time rate. Employees who work less than 16 hours per week are not eligible for funding.

Employer Recruitment and Training Support is available if:

  • Your business is expanding and the post is new.
  • You are seeking a justifiable replacement for a vacant post.
  • Your business does not have a director in common with the company that made the individual you want to recruit redundant.
  • The job is at least 16 hours per week.
  • The job is expected to last for at least 12 months.
  • The job is not being supported by any other public or European Funding.
  • Your business has not reached the ‘de minimis’ threshold for State Aid rules.

If you require further information or advice about ReAct funding, feel free to call us Monday on 01685 872385.

Other routes to take on completion of a PTLLS Award

‘PTLLS’ ( now called Level 3 Award in Education & Training) is a short introductory course to the teaching strategies used in further education and is the equivalent of an ‘introduction to teaching’ course. PTLLS consists of 30 hours’ delivery plus 30 hours of self-directed learning. It is a Level 3 qualification and after you’ve completed the PTLLS Award, you then need to take further qualifications depending on whether you’re aiming to qualify as a ‘full’ or ‘associate’ teacher.

Whilst most learners decide to do a PTLLS Award to get their careers in teaching further education started, which include tutoring, training and teaching 16+, PTLLS  isn’t just restricted to that sector. Instead, it could be the stepping stone to a variety of other professions which use the same skills developed whilst studying.
